Here we have an excellent example of how decent writer, armed with creative juice to spare, good wear plot and rework can take to make it seem fresh. Just when you think you've figured out my next turn, you're surprised. This happens throughout the film, making The Girl Next Door is one of the most attractive, intelligent and subversive teen Comedy Ive seen in a long time - beautifully written, perfectly cast, a pleasure from beginning to end. Emile Hirsch, Elisha Cuthbert and Timothy Olyphant shine in their role as the young man at a crossroads in his life, the neighbor of the title, just as confused, and with heart scuzball know that he do the right thing, even when it comes against his business instincts. The characters are not one-dimensional, thanks to the very letter, nor are they caricatures: they come across as real individuals, and the comedy in the film is not at their expense, but rather organic, as part of their travels. As Olyphants characters Hirsch asks at one point: Is the juice worth the squeeze? In this case certain.
